My latest works are about connections. Neural Pathways, Intimate Connections, and of course Social Networking.
The importance of our connections can never be over emphasized, without them we die.

A couple of years ago I was told by a teacher I respect very much, Andrew Long to NOT be afraid of painting an ugly painting. This was an exercise to loosen us up, and since then when I find myself trying too hard to dominate the painting, I remember those words.
It's a way of stepping back intellectually, and allowing a more intuitive natural flow into my abstract paintings. Modern Art is expressive and emotional, intuitive and lyrical. Removing the conscious mind allows the process to unfold.

My latest series of modern abstract paintings, explores social networks, and the tangled connections we form. Visually representing real life behaviors with abstract acrylic paintings requires a great deal of imagination and intuition.
How colors and shapes and lines relate to each other in contemporary art is a difficult task to master, with out introducing familiar elements that define a narrative. Knowing my abstract art will become wall decor I often choose a palette of neutrals accented with dabs of pure pigment.

What an exciting show, and awesome group of people!
48 local artists delivered outstanding Art Work in last nights Art Hash Show at Deep Ellum's Kettle Art Gallery. A variety of styles and mediums were presented including sculpture, mixed media, and modern abstract paintings. There was something for everyone.

I think what he meant by this statement was that an artist must loose his inhibitions and let his imagination soar. So many times I find myself over-thinking my work, struggling to get the composition to adhere to all the principles of good design that I've learned, when in the end it is the expressiveness, the spontaneity that will make my paintings interesting.

Over the next few days I will be adding content; blog posts, images and configuring things the way I want.
This is just a start. A simple page to post new paintings and express myself. Many transformations will follow, but now that I have a reliable CMS (content management system) - Drupal, I should be able to do all the things I want to do with my web presence.
Bare with me as I learn to use these new tools. Please leave any comments or suggestions, particularly if you are familiar with Drupal. I can use all the help I can get.
